Family Tree Template Word – Step by Step
Step 1
Open a Microsoft Word document.
Step 2
Click on the insert tab. Select “Smart Art”. Click on “hierarchy” in the left column.
Step 3
Select any of the hierarchy diagrams. We will use the “circle hierarchy diagram” in this example. Click on each text box and type each family member’s name. You can also add a photo for each person if you selected the circle hierarchy diagram. To add a photo, just click on the image icon and select the photo from your PC. In addition to the name you can add additional information such as the date of birth, place or birth or date of death for family members who have passed away.
Step 4
Add additional text boxes by clicking on “Add Shape”. You can also drag the text boxes around according to your family structure.
Step 5
You can use a set design by selecting one of the designs from the Smart Art Styles. Alternatively, you can change the colors of the chart by clicking on “Change Colors”.
Step 6
Once your family tree is complete you can make it larger or smaller by clicking on any corner and dragging it to the left or right. You can fill the page if you want it to be large or make it smaller if you prefer. The font size will change according to the chart size.
Step 7
Save your chart and print. Even if you only want to print you should still save the chart in case you find a typo or want to make changes in the future.
